Jan. 13, 2008: It’s a strange thing, juggling law school with prepping for SXSW. (I’m feeling kind of like Clark Kent law student by day and Superman filmmaker by night.) I’ve been scouring the internet during any free time I can find for advice on how to make the most of the SXSW experience. Because this is my first feature-length film and my first time in a festival like SXSW, it’s a little overwhelming to try to make sure I’m doing all I should be doing to prepare.
A few of the questions I’ve been facing lately:
- Do I need to find a film PR person?
- Do I need a sales agent / producer’s rep?
- How do I get the HDCAM ready to screen?
- How do I get a decent website up and what should it include?
- How do I edit together a slick trailer?
- What kinds of marketing materials do I need to create and how?

Dec. 7, 2007: Just got a phone call from Charlie Sotelo, one of SXSW’s film programmers. He saw the screener of “Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie,” enjoyed the film, and asked if I’d like to have the world premiere at SXSW. Really thrilled and honored! After Charlie and I hung up, I called my girlfriend Erin to tell her the good news. I can’t imagine a better Friday or a better way to start the weekend.
We realize this is long overdue, but we are working on developing a new blog-fueled Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie website. We envision this site soon providing a more detailed chronicle of the film’s journey compared to the original site.
UPDATE: We’ve made a lot of progress. Please enjoy exploring all the pages we have up.
BLOG POSTS COMING SOON: We’re still working on adding more content to the blog, and over the next few weeks, you should notice regular updates and content being added from notes and journal entries dating from 2008 and 2009.
